Various forms of sustainable and responsible tourism mainly focus on minimizing the harm of tourism industry. Impact tourism represents their upgrade. Aim is to maximize the beneficial influence of tourists and its activation - all through the model of social (society) entrepreneurship which is not driven solely by profit. IMPACTISATION – SYNERGY OF IMPACT AND INNOVATION
Impact (in the context of the impact tourism) means maximal positive footprint of tourism on society. Impactisation is an innovative methodological production method where milestones are creation of a new impact within tourism policies, measures, products, modification of existing ones or even changed business models. In case of tourism products - process of impactisation can be used in all different tourism product types (experiences, accommodation, transport, restaurants, services, events, congress tourism, tour packages, etc.). Impact tourism products have common characteristics that are divided into groups, namely: 1. Quality, 2. Social responsibility and sustainability, 3. Local impact, 4. Social challenge, 5. Unique experience, 6. Impact tourist, 7. Inclusion and accessibility, 8. Social and fair economy, 9. Impact measurement, 10. Verification and 11. Beyond the horizon.
For each indicator we use a set of at least 4 questions (total 40 indicators) in order to help produce/develop impact tourism product or modify (impactise) existing ones.
IMPACTISATION AND TECHNOLOGY
Impactisation process would have higher impact if it is based on relevant data and technology is properly used. That remains challenge. Using for example big data and data analysis tools to link society challenges and tourism products remains challenge. Same goes for blockchain, use of mobile services, gamification, simulation, eMarketing and social media. More coherent research on use of technologies contributing to effectiveness of impact tourism is greatly needed.
