ENTER2020 - Responsible eTourism
University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, 8-10 January 2020
The AIRTH efforts at the IFITT's ENTER2020 conference at the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK, offered another excellent experience of AIRTH Innovation-in-Motion conferences and events.
Highlights:
-
AIRTH organized two industry and two academic sessions. (See presentations below).
-
Participation in the academic sessions required acceptance of a research note; a total of nine were accepted and are online available through the eReview of Tourism Research (see "Full text" links in the presentations).
-
AIRTH members participated as mentors in the PhD Workshop Day on January 7.
-
The presidency of IFITT, the International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism behind ENTER, remains closely connected to AIRTH. Past president Iis Tussyadiah, AIRTH founding member, stepped down and Zheng “Phil” Xiang, another AIRTH founding member, was elected president for a two-year term.
Industry sessions were organized and moderated by Dejan Krizaj. One panel discussion on the topic of “Technology and Sustainability” focused on big data, tourism impacts and the importance of social and experience aspects in the technology-oriented and environmental sustainable development efforts. The second industry panel discussion “Industry Challenges” was very vivid with panelists coming from a hospitality company in Slovenia, a destination marketing office in Finland and a city mayor’s office in Turkey. Despite representing three different countries and industry sectors, all panelists addressed similar issues or technology-overwhelmed daily struggles in marketing processes and destinations' stakeholders management.
For the academic sessions were moderated by Florian Zach. AIRTH solicited submissions in the form of research notes between 2,500 and 4,000 words. All submissions were managed through the ENTER2020 review system whereby AIRTH members assisted in the double-blind review process. Many thanks to AIRTH members! The presentations were stretched out over two sessions with about 40 and 50 audience. The presentations were inspiring and sparked exciting discussions. All presenters agreed to have their slides posted, please find them below. Furthermore, please follow "Full text" links in each presentation page to the eReview of Tourism Research (free access) to access all research notes.
